Pets are just as big of a part of our lives as many of the people that are in it. I became aware of this because of the love I shared with my cocker spaniel, Tobie. Sadly, my beloved Tobie passed away this past February. Since that time, I have come across many people that suffered the loss of a pet and did not have a place to grieve. Most people did not know what to do when they lost their pet. This is why I started Pet Passing.

I created Pet Passing to be a resource for people who don’t have friends who understand the need to openly grieve for their pet. Has a well-meaning (and completely oblivious) friend given you the “just an animal” talk, yet? Our pets arenot just animals! Our pets are beloved family members, and major parts of our lives! Their loss is devastating.

Creating a memorial for your pet helps the grieving process. There is therapy in writing about the way you feel. Consider an online pet memorial to make a public statement of your feelings. Find friends who won’t judge you when you need to cry.

I hope Pet Passing helps you through your own grief. It’s not so much as getting on with your life, as to keep precious memories in a comfortable place.

Sincerely,

Caroline Kent

This is Tobie’s lovely burial marker. I planted daffodil bulbs around the stone last fall and they are blooming now!
